Mr. Tarun Mathur : International chess player, Air India officer and visionary.
He has been serving the government in the aviation sector for more than a decade. He is also a polished chess player and has represented India across countries and platforms. In addition to this, Mr. Mathur is a reputed debate panellist.
Backed by the knowledge and experience that Mr. Mathur has gained through these fields, he established Hamari Pahchan NGO in 2015.
He instructed his daughter Meher Mathur not to go out at night following the horrifying Nirbhaya rape in Delhi in 2012. "Rather than stopping me, make Delhi safer," Meher remarked.
That night, Tarun Mathur was inspired and shaken by the realisation that there are numerous difficulties in our society, and we are stuck in a never-ending vicious spiral.
He saw that the only way out of this labyrinth of pain is in our own hands, and that we need to act as agents of change if we hope to see transformation. With this vision, he launched the Save Delhi, Brave Delhi campaign, in partnership with the Delhi Government , which saw CCTV cameras deployed in various parts of the city. Hamari Pahchan was founded in response to this initiative.
Since then, through Mr. Mathur’s efforts, Hamari Pahchan has expanded to a family with thousands of members, interns and volunteers. He has launched multiple initiatives including Sukhad - to ensure menstrual hygiene, Drishti - to ensure education for the underprivileged and the skill development project which helps underprivileged women stand on their own feet.
Under Mr. Tarun Mathur’s guidance, Hamari pahchan NGO is picking up the shovel and paving the way towards setting new normals.
